Join the fun at The Hingham Mothers’ Club (HMC) Festival of Trees, Dec. 2 and 3 at the Hingham Community Center. The annual event brings joy to the season and much-needed support for our homeless shelters.
This year the Festival features 40 beautiful trees on display as part of Hingham’s Christmas in the Square celebration.
Local individuals, organizations, and businesses donate the trees and decorate them with ornaments, small gifts, and gift certificates. Then they go on display Friday from 5 to 9 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm. Viewers can also bid on the trees through a silent auction on both days. All bids must be submitted by 2 pm Saturday, Dec. 3.
A Fundraiser to Fill Critical Needs
Proceeds from tree sales go to the Friends of the Homeless of the South Shore shelter program and the Hingham Mothers’ Club Scholarship Fund.
“We’re extremely grateful for the fundraising that Hingham Mother’s Club does on our behalf,” says Herb Newell, Executive Director, Friends of the Homeless of the South Shore. “Their donation supports our mission to help our guests achieve self-sufficiency – not just at the holidays – but all year.”
“We’re looking forward to sponsoring this beloved South Shore holiday tradition,” says Zoe Pirnie, co-director of Hingham Mother’s Club. Last year the event raised more than $16,000 for their two beneficiaries, Pirnie says. “And this year, with the new wreath competition, we anticipate an even more successful fundraising outcome.”
Wreath Contest Winners Get Bragging Rights
Also on display and available for purchase this year:
- Hand decorated wreaths from the Hingham Mother’s Club first-ever Wreath Decorating Competition.
- Hundreds of other items that local individuals and merchants donate to the Club’s silent auction.
“If you win the wreath competition, you get bragging rights to the most beautiful wreath in the area,” says Pirnie. “You also receive event coverage by local media.” The Hingham Mothers’ Club publishes the names of those who donate trees and wreaths on their website and social media.
