136 Direct Care Program Staff I (Family Life Advocate FLA)

Job Description

The Family Life Advocate I, supervised by the Assistant Program Director, is responsible for direct Guest care, to provide for safe and secure emergency shelter. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Daily check-in with guests
  • Monitoring guest’s comings and goings per Shelter policy
  • Assisting guests with training in child-care
  • Assisting guests with training in housekeeping
  • Doing Shelter laundry
  • Monitoring and assisting guests for compliance with shelter rules
  • Monitoring and assisting guest’s relations with each other
  • Answering phones and taking and distributing messages
  • Monitoring guest usage of phones
  • Distribution of guest mail
  • Supervising guest interactions with visitors
  • Monitoring attendance at scheduled meetings
  • Monitoring compliance with regulations and requirements as set by representatives of supportive agencies
  • Keeping accurate and current records of guest activities and communicating to other staff and supervisors things that have occurred during their shift
  • Maintaining guest confidentiality

Responsibilities Include

Other miscellaneous responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Monitoring condition of Shelter grounds and taking appropriate actions to keep them neat and clean
  • Preparing units for incoming guests, including cleaning units when guests leave and checking for maintenance needs
  • Keeping office areas neat and clean
  • Interacting with and supervising activities of volunteers at the Shelter Overnight Staff

In addition to the above, Overnight staff responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Check with outgoing staff about any client or security issues
  • Read Daily shift notes
  • Confirm that guests are accounted for
  • Check security lights and that doors are locked
  • Answer phone
  • Visually or as necessary, personally confirm late night check-ins (11PM)
  • Watch for unauthorized persons
  • Be sure guests are aware that you are present and available for them

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Human Services related Field preferred
  • Experience in Human Services related Field
  • Good written and verbal skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Experience considered in lieu of educational requirement
